This grant is an extension of a project that was started last spring to combat poor nutrition.  The students planted young plants, nurtured and harvested a variety of vegetables.  Now they will install a small greenhouse which will allow students to raise their plants from seed, adding to their knowledge of the growth cycle of plants.  The areas of academic growth in science and math are addressed in this project.

For the purchase of new risers in an effort to provide a safer environment for over 600 students who participate in musicals, concerts, academic programs, spelling bees and other contests.

In an effort to meet the needs of highly gifted students, this project will provide students with robotic construction kits that will be used to compete in creative problem solving competitions addressing science and technology objectives.

For the purchase of an incubator for hatching chickens to teach children about life cycles.  Children excel with hands on project. This helps meet science instructional goals.  This project taps the science goals of life cycles and the language arts goals of predicting.  All classes on campus will have an opportunity to visit during the project and have their lesson on life cycles.  This grant will provide for years of learning.

This grant will give children the opportunity to express themselves through the arts.  Student participation and comprehension in music will increase with the purchase of music instruments, curriculum books, and sound equipment.

Amount: $3,000

This grant is to improve literacy in the lower elementary levels.  The books provided by this grant will be used during small group instructional time.  Strategies taught using these leveled books include phonics, oral language development, phonemic awareness and comprehension.  These too are tools to be used for years to come.

This grant is for the iResponse Student Response Systems.  Using the iResponse, a teacher could know immediately whether or not students were comprehending subject matter.  Teachers could be more effective in teaching or clarifying any confusion.  The student response systems can give a teacher an immediate response as to the student's understanding.  Students use the "clicker" to indicate their answer giving the teacher immediate results for the level of understanding in the classroom on the particular subject matter.
